SPRINGFIELD — As Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton doubles down on her push for replacing our current healthcare system with government-run healthcare, which she and Bernie Sanders call “Medicare-for-All,” the Washington Post is warning voters that Medicare-for-All really Means Taxes-for-All.

In a recent editorial, the Washington Post rejects the left-wing myth that Medicare-for-All can be funded simply by taxing billionaires, noting that no country finances a government-run healthcare system that way. The editorial concludes that broad middle class tax increases would be unavoidable because "billionaires don't have enough money to fund the government as it currently exists, let alone with another population-wide entitlement program on top of it."

"Lt Governor Stratton is selling another murky, expensive big government scheme without telling voters who will actually pay for it," said Republican U.S. Senate candidate Don Tracy. "The Washington Post acknowledges what common sense tells us: You can't create a massive new government entitlement program and expect only the super-rich to foot the bill. Sooner than later, working families get the tab.

"Illinois families have seen how this goes. Politicians promise a new government entitlement program, insist it will be affordable and that someone else will pay for it, and then taxpayers get stuck with higher taxes and higher costs. That's how Illinois became a super-high tax State. Now Juliana Stratton wants to export that same blueprint to Washington.

“We don't need another overly-complicated trillion-dollar government experiment. We need common sense solutions to lower healthcare costs, expand consumer choice, and trust patients instead of bureaucrats.”
