Shutdown Week 5: Tracy Demands Democrats Stop Using Illinois Families as “Leverage”
SPRINGFIELD – As the second-longest (and most unnecessary) government shutdown in history enters its fifth week, Illinois families continue to pay the price for DC power games. Senate Democrats see the government shutdown as “leverage” to push $1.5 trillion in additional spending on far-left initiatives, a fact that was affirmed by IL Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi last week on CNN.
U.S. Senate Candidate Don Tracy issued the following statement in response:
"Illinois families suffer while Democrats use them as 'leverage,' according to my opponent, Raja. Meanwhile, air traffic delays at O’Hare and Midway worsen, SNAP benefits run out, and essential workers go unpaid due to Democrats’ refusal to back a clean continuing resolution to end this shutdown, all so they can continue to appease their base.
“Republicans have repeatedly voted to reopen the government, but Raja and his party prioritize politics over people. Do his primary opponents, Juliana Stratton and Robin Kelly, agree with Raja's position that this ‘leverage’ is worth prolonging people's pain? Do they support treating Illinois families, men and women on the frontlines, and farmers as pawns? Voters deserve to know.
“It’s time to end this shutdown and put Illinois first. I’ll fight for solutions that prioritize our families, not partisan games."
Don is available for video and phone interviews on this topic, with some availability for in-studio discussions.
