Inflation Slows to Five-Year Low as Economic Momentum Builds

SPRINGFIELD — According to a new CPI report covered by MarketWatch, inflation slowed to 2.4% year-over-year in January, the lowest pace in five years and below expectations.

U.S. Senate candidate Don Tracy said the latest numbers are welcome news for working families who have endured years of sky-high prices.

“Since 2020, everyday Illinoisans have been short changed by rising grocery bills, soaring utility costs, higher gas prices, and skyrocketing health care and housing expenses,” Tracy said. “After the inflation disaster driven by reckless spending and extreme policies in Washington under the Biden Democrats, Americans are finally beginning to see relief with Republicans back in charge.

“Let’s be clear: prices are still too high in Illinois. Working families in this state are still making tough choices between paying the utility bill and putting food on the table. But slowing inflation shows that when we pursue common sense economic policies that reduce spending, encourage domestic manufacturing, support small businesses, and reward work, we move in the right direction.

“My Democrat opponents supported the very policies that caused historically high inflation which made life unaffordable for many working families. They put special interests and extreme agendas ahead of the people they were elected to serve. Illinois needs strength, leadership, and common sense, not more politics.

“I will work hard in the U.S. Senate to make the American Dream achievable for our children, our grandchildren, and every working family across Illinois.”

Don Tracy is available for phone, video, and in-studio interviews.
