Don Tracy Opposes Jeffries’ Mid-Cycle Gerrymander Power Grab
SPRINGFIELD – Hakeem Jeffries is pushing a Washington power grab to redraw Illinois’ already-gerrymandered map. Currently, the plan involves expanding Chicago districts further to push out Rep. Darin LaHood and silence downstate voters. Democrat US Senate hopefuls have already expressed their support. Raja Krishnamoorthi says Democrats must “neutralize” GOP maps by further rigging the Illinois map. Robin Kelly says Democrats have to redistrict in order to “fight fire with fire.”
U.S. Senate Candidate Don Tracy issued the following statement in response:
“Under Illinois Democrats, the state already has the most gerrymandered Congressional map in the country. But that’s not enough for my opponents. They are encouraging Hakeem Jeffries, who was in Illinois to re-draw our map to take over yet another Republican district.
“My Senate opponents, Reps. Raja Krishnamoorthi and Robin Kelly, told the media they’re all in on this extreme gerrymander plan. What does Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton think? She can’t duck Jeffries’ mid-cycle map manipulation plan. Her opponents in the primary are in full support. In talking about Texas, her boss said mid-cycle gerrymandering.was cheating. Voters deserve clarity.
“I’ll work in the U.S. Senate for fair maps and fair voter representation. My opponents need to stand up for all Illinoisans and reject extreme gerrymandering now.”
