Don Tracy Calls Out His Democrat Opponents for Rejecting Voter ID

SPRINGFIELD 84% of Americans support requiring a government-issued photo ID to vote, yet all three Illinois Democrats running for U.S. Senate oppose the common sense measure. Raja Krishnamoorthi and Robin Kelly voted against the SAVE Act in Congress while Juliana Stratton has publicly opposed it.

They’re following the lead of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer who has promised to go to war over voter ID laws. Yet in 1996, then-Rep. Schumer strongly backed ID requirements as a tool to reduce welfare fraud, saying:

One way to prove you’re a bona fide person who can have a job is to ask for a driver’s license and a Social Security card...This [ID requirement] is an anti-fraud amendment.”

This is yet another example of Washington career politicians abandoning prior common sense policies to satisfy their extreme political base instead of supporting sound public policy.

“Requiring a valid photo ID to vote in federal elections is common sense. My Democrat opponents have proven, once again, that they’re more loyal to extreme activist organizations and party bosses than to everyday Illinoisans.

“The truth is the SAVE ACT will protect our elections from foreign interference, give voters confidence in our elections by knowing their one vote won’t be easily diluted by an illegal ballot, and ensure fairness by establishing consistent eligibility standards for federal elections in all 50 States.

Restoring strong leadership in Washington means electing people who will stand with the American people rather than evolve their position depending on which way the political winds are blowing. Illinois families deserve a Senator who will represent the people's interests rather than special interest agendas.”
