Chicago Credit Downgraded Again, Yet Raja, Stratton and Kelly Still Support Brandon Johnson
CHICAGO — After months of political infighting, Mayor Johnson allowed a $16.6 billion city budget to take effect that includes $535 million in tax increases and relies heavily on borrowing, one-time revenue sources, and assumed efficiencies to close a $1.15 billion deficit.
This week, all too predictably, Chicago’s credit was downgraded… again.
“This downgrade is the result of failed far-left policies,” Tracy said. “When you push extreme policies, rely on borrowing and gimmicks, and refuse to make tough decisions, the bill eventually comes due. Unfortunately, it’s everyday Chicago families who will pay the price through higher taxes, higher borrowing costs, and fewer opportunities.
“Despite all that, none of my Democrat opponents could bring themselves to say they would oppose Johnson when he runs for re-election. Even after the disastrous results of his policies make headlines, they refuse to distance themselves from his agenda.
“I’ve run a small business. I’ve had to make payroll. I know you cannot borrow your way to prosperity. You balance budgets. You cut waste. You grow the economy. You lower costs for working families.
“Illinoisans deserve a Senator who will fight to lower their cost-of-living, not one who has trouble standing up to Brandon Johnson and wants to export Chicago’s failed policies to Washington.
“Someone has to champion common sense. That’s why I’m running.”
